"MONK'S BLEND" BLACK TEA WITH CARDAMOM

In the spirit of monastic hospitality, Father Jonah kindly offered us a cup of tea when we arrived at the monastery after our long journey, and of course, we accepted. While serving the tea, Father explained that the tea was Mamri tea, a unique black tea from India in which the leaves are rolled into tiny pellets. As the tea brews the pellets burst open, releasing their rich full flavor. The monks at the monastery add crushed cardamom pods to the tea, giving it an aromatic and tasty zing. Father also noted that since ancient times cardamom has been used medicinally as a blood purifier and digestive aid. The monks typically serve the tea with hot milk and honey. With our first sip we knew our search for a monastery tea had come to a delicious end.
